Anna Chassevent is the founder of Living Well Genetic Counseling. I am a board certified genetic counselor and graduated from The Johns Hopkins/National Institutes of Health Genetic Counseling Training program. I am an associate professor, guest lecturer, student mentor, and published research author. I have sought out training in a range of counseling methods. And, most importantly, I have worked with hundreds of families to better understand their genetic diagnosis and diagnostic journey. In 2020, I was honored to be nominated by a patient for the esteemed Heart of Genetic Counseling Award.
I am also mom to a child with developmental and behavioral delays, so I personally understand the nuanced hopes and struggles of parenting a child who needs extra support.

Please reach out to me if you have questions about the services I offer or the work that I do at Living Well Genetic Counseling.
Please reach us at if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Start with a free 15 minute "Get-to-know you" appointment to determine if Living Well Genetic Counseling is right for you. Genetic counseling services following that appointment are $140 per hour.
It is very important to me that everyone can receive the support that they need. If you are uninsured, facing financial hardship, or cost is otherwise a limitation to you receiving care through us, please let me know at the "get-to-know you" appointment and we can find a price that works for you.
I am in-network with Maryland Medicaid and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield. For out-of-network insurance, I will provide you with a super bill to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Let me know if you have questions about how to submit to your insurance.
Living Well Genetic Counseling focuses on supporting families as they cope and live well with a genetic condition in themselves or someone they care for. Many clients feel like they are alone and that even other medical care providers do not understand both the medical and practical challenges of living with a medical condition. There are a wide range of topics that my clients bring to their genetic counseling appointments. Often they include:
I can also connect you with support groups, discuss how to talk with family members, friends, teachers, and other care providers about you or your child's needs, answer questions regarding genetic testing, talk with your child about a diagnosis, and much more.
I do not order genetic testing or diagnose patients. I can help you access these services through a genetic counselor or physician local to you.
The frequency of counseling sessions with Living Well Genetic Counseling will depend on your individual needs and goals. Some clients may benefit from weekly sessions, while others may just have a single question they would like answered, and anywhere in between. Set up a "Get-to-know you" appointment and we can make a plan together based on your goals.
All appointments are remote and will take place through a secure video conferencing platform. I will send you the link to join by email before the scheduled time.
Due to licensure laws, I am able to see patients who are located in Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Washington DC, West Virginia, or Wyoming at the time of the call. If you are located in another state and interested in an appointment, please message me. I am looking to become licensed in other states and would like to know which states to prioritize first.
Every person is at a different place in their coping journey and our goal is to meet each individual where they are.
My model of counseling is based on Solutions Focused Brief Therapy and Logotherapy (meaning centered care). I have experience working with families with many different genetic conditions, including Fragile X disorder, Batten Disease, Rett syndrome, autism, intellectual disability, seizure disorders, brain malformations, muscle disorders, and familial cancers.
Schedule a free "Get-to-know you" appointment! At this appointment we will work together to determine if Living Well Genetic Counseling is a good fit for you.
In order to best support our clients, it is extremely important that we have prior genetic testing records before the first full length appointment. After the "Get-to-know you" appointment I will send you an intake survey and release of information documents. If you have worked with a genetic counselor recently, I will reach out to them to get the most up to date notes and genetic testing results.
After working at the Kennedy Krieger Institute for 5 years, I decided to start Living Well Genetic Counseling. So many of the families who I saw wanted more than a genetic diagnosis. They wanted the time and opportunity to process and incorporate the complexity of a diagnosis into their complicated lives. Patients shared feeling lonely, uncertain, lost, frustrated, and tired. While a genetic diagnosis was often helpful, it did not offer the holistic healing that they hoped for. Furthermore, when they tried traditional counseling they expressed frustration at having to explain living with a diagnosis or the experience of parenting a child with a disability to their therapist. There needed to be someone to fill this gap for families, and so Living Well Genetic Counseling was born.
